UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Undergraduates enter a four-year program of study leading to an ABET-accredited B.S. degree in chemical engineering. Each undergraduate in the chemical engineering program is assigned a faculty adviser, who fills this role from the time the student enters the University until graduation with the B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. Faculty advisers help students assess their academic goals and career objectives, understand program requirements, and guide decisions regarding the choice of technical and non-technical electives. The undergraduate curriculum is also structured so that students can specialize in one or more important areas of technology by following course "threads" within the curriculum. A "thread" is a sequence of courses that, if followed, will lead to a more in-depth understanding of a particular area of technology. Currently the department offers "thread" sequences in three important areas:

The introductory course to this last thread is a freshman course (ChE 150) titled: "Green Engineering for Sustainable Economic Development". We highly recommend that all of our entering students take this course since it introduces students to the important role that chemical engineers will increasingly come to play in the future in the development of low pollution, energy efficient manufacturing processes.
