Research Topics:
Nanostructured materials; magnetic nanoparticles; mesoporous solids;
micro- and nanofabrication; self-assembly; functional materials
and structures for photonic, biophotonic, and optoelectronic applications
Research Overview: I am interested in the synthesis, property and application of nanostructured metal containing nanomaterials. The targeted materials include noble metals (Pt, Ag, Au), metal oxides (Fe x O y , CoO x , ZnO, and SnO 2 ), metal alloys/intermetallics (PtFe, PtCo, PtNi, PtRu, and SmCo) and to some extent, the quantum dots. The group focuses particularly on the development of new liquid phase synthetic methods of those nanomaterials that can potentially generate broader scientific and social impacts. The Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique is used in developing unconventional methods for the fabrication of nanomaterials. Current research topics include: 1) synthesis and property of core-shell nanoparticles and other multifunctional nanostructures, 2) colloidal magnetic nanoparticles, 3) effect of composition and morphology on the performance of fuel cell catalysts, 4) nanostructures in imidazolium ionic liquids, 5) self-assembly of nanomaterials and the applications of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique in the fabrication of nanostructures, and 6) biological application and impact of nanomaterials.
